Readout of Vice President Kamala Harris’s Call with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador

Vice President Kamala Harris spoke today with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to follow up on issues discussed during her June 8 visit to Mexico City.  Vice President Harris and President López Obrador discussed ongoing bilateral cooperation to address migrants arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border.  The Vice President underscored that addressing irregular migration to our shared border is a top priority for the Biden-Harris Administration.  Vice President Harris updated President López Obrador on U.S. efforts, including the July 29 release of the U.S. Strategy for Addressing the Root Causes of Migration in Central America.  They agreed on the need to focus on strengthening the economies of Central America, particularly through investment in agriculture and climate resilience.  President López Obrador thanked the United States for assistance in combatting the COVID-19 epidemic, including over 4 million vaccines that have already been delivered. Vice President Harris was pleased to share the U.S. government is committed to sending additional doses of vaccine to Mexico.
